- You really build it before I pay anything?
- Yes. We build the complete website first and send you a link so you can see it working on your own phone. You pay nothing until you've decided you want it. We can work this way because building a site takes us hours rather than weeks. To be clear about what that covers: it's one version, built our way, and it stays on our hosting until you pay for it. Changes and revisions happen after that, not before.
- How much does a small business website cost?
- A RankRider website is £1,200 as a one-off, plus £149 a month to host it, keep it updated and manage your Google Business Profile. Larger sites are £1,800–£2,500 and we tell you which before we start. For comparison, a freelancer usually charges £1,500–£3,000 for the same work and an agency starts around £4,000.
- How long does it take?
- We build most small business websites in three to five working days, and put them live within seven days of you saying yes — assuming we can get access to your domain name. If your domain was registered years ago by someone you've lost touch with, that part can take longer, and we'll help you sort it.
- What's a Google Business Profile and why does it matter?
- It's the listing that appears in Google Maps and in the box of local businesses at the top of the results. For local searches it matters more than your website, because that box sits above the ordinary results on nearly every local search. We set yours up, complete it properly, fix the categories and keep it updated as part of the monthly.
- What is AI search and do I need to worry about it?
- A growing share of searches are now answered by an assistant — ChatGPT, Google's AI answers, Perplexity — without anyone clicking a link. We build your site so those systems can read it, understand it and name your business. It's included in every build at no extra cost. We won't promise you a position in an AI answer, because nobody can currently measure or guarantee one, and anyone telling you otherwise is guessing.
- Do I own my website?
- Yes, once you've paid for it. The domain is registered in your name, and if you ever stop the monthly we'll hand over the files and help you move to another host. We don't hold anyone's website hostage.
- Can I make changes myself?
- You don't need to. Small changes are included in the £149 — send us a message with new prices, opening hours or photos of a finished job and we'll do it, usually the same day. That's the point of the monthly: you get on with your work and we look after the website.
- Do you only work with businesses near you?
- No. RankRider works with small businesses anywhere in the UK. Everything is done by phone, email and video, so where you are makes no difference to the work or the price. We are based in London if you would rather meet in person.
